Ted talk class: Your body language shapes who you are

Our recording:

Body Language = non-verbal communications
Can we change our body language to change our own behavior? Yes. Your mind can change your body; your body can change your mind.
“Power” hormones are Cortisol (stress), Testosterone (assertiveness)
Two minutes in a power pose can change your hormones levels accordingly.
“Fake it till you make it.” (saying) => Fake it until you become it. (author’s version)
How?  Do two-minute exercises in a power pose in private and change your life.

Hold your horses. (don’t be in a rush)
What is the talk about?
Sitting in a power position can make you feel powerful and vice versa.

leyla eroğlu 9:03 PM
Hello Bashayer; nice to meet you.

Lee Wright 9:03 PM
Very good description, Bashayer.
They did measure it!
take a pose, “strike” a pose
Tone of voice is a “verbal” communication of sorts.
Using your body language to “talk” to yourself.
fake it till you make it
When you need to be confident, strike a power pose for a minute or two.
Change your self-perception.

leyla eroğlu 9:09 PM

Speaker said:
” judgments of political candidates’ faces in just one second predict 70 percent of U.S. Senate and gubernatorial race outcomes”
What does it mean, can you explain?

Lee Wright 9:14 PM
It’s absurd.
That’s why BIll Clinton was popular – that omnipresent smile (makes me sick to look at it because I know it’s insincere).
Politicians are trained in body language to deceive the public.

leyla eroğlu 9:15 PM

Lee Wright 9:15 PM
Can a one-second impression make up your mind when voting for a candidate?

leyla eroğlu 9:16 PM

Lee Wright 9:17 PM
So interview questions and responses and resume content are irrelevant to the hiring process. Only your body language matters. Seems like a ridiculous process.
I try to judge people by what they say and do.
That’s the point. Body language is EASY to fake.
Authoritarian attitude ticks me off.
POS chur

Lee Wright 9:28 PM

Dogs are a study in body language. 🙂
Sitting at the front of a class vs. at the back of a class.
I have heard that when faced with a bear, you should spread your arms and legs to appear larger.

leyla eroğlu 9:32 PM

Lee Wright 9:33 PM
Only one “pack leader”.
Bullies pick on submissive body language.

Lee Wright 9:36 PM
