grit = small pieces of sand or pebbles; sand paper is gritty material
grit is a personality trait that must be instilled into people, by teachers, parents, friends, themselves due to adversity

Smart people are lazy and give up easy.
Growth mindset
You have to believe you can improve, as long as you exert enough effort.
grit requires that a person have pride in the quality of their work, have a passion for what they are doing, and be determined to achieve a goal.

siblings can differ in the amount of “grit”
deep inside
grit can’t be “forced” into someone
unless by punishment (military?)
encouragement to try again or to try a different way.
Saying: Try and try again.
grandmother encouragement
pride
no fear of failure
If I succeed on my 100th attempt, I didn’t fail 99 times. I learned 99 ways that didn’t work.
t
At least give it a try.
need to be pushed (or persuaded)
one has initiative and boldness
You have to BELIEVE that you can do it.

Jörgen Olsson 9:27 PM
your ability to learn can change with your effort

Lee Wright 9:27 PM
You have to believe your mind can GROW.
self-confidence
I believe I can learn ANYTHING!

Grit is a type of mentality.
Both, I think.
Soldiers need to have grit to complete a mission.

Jörgen Olsson 9:31 PM
It shouldn’ be boring. PASSION!

Lee Wright 9:32 PM
Burnout
inefficient, postpone
immerse yourself and you won’t be bored
Jump in!
If you see progress, then that will motivate you further.
You have to see PROGRESS.
Grit is understanding the NECESSITY that something needs to get done.
“Die Hard” had grit.
Talent without grit doesn’t work.
Saying: Never say die.
Edgar Allen Poe…

I think grit is a “universal” trait that you can apply to any task that you believe in.
t
Grit is trying, not necessarily succeeding.
Curing cancer has been being tried for decades.

Necessity is important.
Saying: Necessity is the Mother of Invention. (necessity brings out the grit in people)
Survival requires grit.

The stranded astronaut had to have grit to survive under very harsh conditions. Had he succumbed to depression, he would have failed.
In a Zombie Apocalypse, people with grit may survive. Others will die more quickly.

Lee Wright 9:52 PM
Memorization requires grit.
Traveling through the desert without water requires grit.
advantage (ad VANT ij)
disadvantage (DIS ad VANT ij)
Homework = repetition
Does that build “grit”?
Homework should be “self-assessment” related.

Jörgen Olsson 9:55 PM
being immersed

Lee Wright 9:56 PM
If you turn in homework to the teacher, it is really for the teacher, not the student. It helps the teacher assess the student’s understanding.
t
Homework should be “do, turn in, teacher graded, returned to student”. Assessment and Feedback.
If not, then homework is useless.
Just for a lazy teacher to put the learning on the student.
Homework is simply practice.
repetitiion
homework is self-assessment
If the homework has answers, then you can assess yourself.
Without answers, you don’t know if you did it right or not.

Gerard Arbat 10:01 PM
